Eps Warning Lamp Does Not Turn on

Diagnosis Procedure

EPS warning lamp does not turn ON when the power switch is placed ON from OFF. (Check the illumination of the EPS warning lamp.)

CHECK EPS WARNING LAMP

Perform the trouble diagnosis of EPS warning lamp. Refer to Component Function Check.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Check that there is no malfunction in each harness connector pin terminal or disconnection.

NO>>

Repair or replace the specific malfunctioning part.

Eps Warning Lamp Does Not Turn Off

Diagnosis Procedure

EPS warning lamp does not turn OFF several seconds after the vehicle is READY state.

PERFORM SELF DIAGNOSTIC RESULT

CONSULT

1. Power switch OFF to ON.

2. Select “Self Diagnostic Result” mode of “EPS/DAST 3”.

Is any DTC detected?

YES>>

Check the DTC. Refer to DTC Index.

NO>>

GO TO 2.

CHECK EPS WARNING LAMP

Perform the trouble diagnosis of EPS warning lamp. Refer to Component Function Check.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 3.

NO>>

Repair or replace the specific malfunctioning part.

CHECK EPS CONTROL UNIT POWER SUPPLY AND GROUND CIRCUIT

Perform the trouble diagnosis of EPS control unit power supply and ground. Refer to DTC Diagnosis Procedure.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Check that there is no malfunction in each harness connector pin terminal or disconnection.

NO>>

Repair or replace the specific malfunctioning part.

Steering Wheel Turning Force Is Heavy or Light

Diagnosis Procedure

Steering wheel turning force is heavy or light.

PERFORM SELF-DIAGNOSIS

With CONSULT

1. Pull the parking brake switch.

   NOTE:

   Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned ON.

2. Power switch OFF.

3. Get out of the Nissan Ariya vehicle and close all doors.

4. Wait 65 seconds or more.

   NOTE:

   • Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned OFF.

   • If the rear brake calipers are hot, wait up to an hour until parking brake switch indicator on the switch turns OFF. Once indicator on the switch turns OFF, move to next step.

5. Power switch ON.

6. Perform self-diagnosis for “EPS/DIRECT ADAPTIVE STEERING 3”.

Is a malfunctioning system displayed?

YES>>

Check the DTC. Refer to DTC Index.

NO>>

GO TO 2.

CHECK THE ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING LAMP

Check that the power steering warning lamp turns ON when power switch ON. Then, power steering warning lamp turns OFF after set the Nissan Ariya vehicle to READY.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 3.

NO>>

Perform trouble diagnosis of power steering warning lamp. Refer to Component Function Check.

CHECK THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE SIGNAL (1)

With CONSULT

1. Set the Nissan Ariya vehicle to READY.

   CAUTION:

   Never drive the vehicle.

2. Turn steering wheel from full left stop to full right stop.

3. Select “EPS/DIRECT ADAPTIVE STEERING 3”, “Data monitor” and “Assist level” in this order. Refer to Values On The Diagnosis Tool.

Dose the item in “Data monitor” indicate “99%”?

YES>>

GO TO 6.

NO>>

GO TO 4.

CHECK THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE SIGNAL (2)

With CONSULT

Select “EPS/DIRECT ADAPTIVE STEERING 3”, “Data monitor” and “Battery voltage” in this order. Refer to Values On The Diagnosis Tool.

Is the display value “10.5 V” or more?

YES>>

GO TO 5.

NO>>

Perform trouble diagnosis of power steering control module power supply and ground. Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.

CHECK THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE SIGNAL (3)

With CONSULT

1. Select “EPS/DIRECT ADAPTIVE STEERING 3”, “Data monitor” and “Assist level” in this order. Refer to Values On The Diagnosis Tool.

2. Stop the EPS system until the item becomes “99%”.

   NOTE:

   While stopping the EPS system, do not turn steering wheel.

3. Check that the symptom continues.

Dose the symptom continue?

YES>>

GO TO 6.

NO>>

The assist torque decreases because of protection function. This is not malfunction. INSPECTION END

CHECK THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE SIGNAL (4)

With CONSULT

1. Set the Nissan Ariya vehicle to READY.

   CAUTION:

   Never drive the vehicle.

2. Turn steering wheel from full left stop to full right stop.

3. Select “EPS/DIRECT ADAPTIVE STEERING 3”, “Data monitor” and “Steering torque” in this order. Refer to Values On The Diagnosis Tool.

Is data specified value?

YES>>

GO TO 7.

NO>>

Replace the power steering control module . Refer to Removal and Installation.

CHECK THE STEERING FORCE

Check the steering wheel turning force. Refer to STEERING COLUMN: Inspection.

Is the check result normal?

YES>>

INSPECTION END

NO>>

It is possible that there is a mechanical malfunction. Check the steering system. Refer to STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE : Inspection.

Unbalance Steering Wheel Turning Force and Return Between Right and Left

Diagnosis Procedure

Unbalance steering wheel turning force and return between right and left.

PERFORM SELF-DIAGNOSIS

With CONSULT

1. Pull the parking brake switch.

   NOTE:

   Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned ON.

2. Power switch OFF.

3. Get out of the Nissan Ariya vehicle and close all doors.

4. Wait 65 seconds or more.

   NOTE:

   • Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned OFF.

CHECK THE ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING LAMP

Check the power steering warning lamp while set the Nissan Ariya vehicle to READY.

Does the power steering warning lamp turn OFF?

YES>>

GO TO 3.

NO>>

Refer to Component Function Check.

CHECK WHEEL ALIGNMENT

Check the wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT : Inspection.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 4.

NO>>

Adjustment of wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT : Adjustment.

CHECK POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE SIGNAL

With CONSULT

1. Set the Nissan Ariya vehicle to READY.

   CAUTION:

   Never drive the vehicle.

2. Turn steering wheel from full left stop to full right stop.

3. Select “EPS/DIRECT ADAPTIVE STEERING 3”, “Data monitor” and “Steering torque” in this order. Refer to Values On The Diagnosis Tool.

Is data specified value?

YES>>

GO TO 5.

NO>>

Replace the power steering control module. Refer to Removal and Installation.

CHECK STEERING WHEEL TURNING FORCE

Check the steering wheel turning force. Refer to STEERING COLUMN: Inspection.

Is the check result normal?

YES>>

INSPECTION END

NO>>

It is possible that there is a mechanical malfunction. Check the steering system. Refer to STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE : Inspection.
